Watch Out for That Guy “ED”
I believe everyone deserves a second chance... and a third chance… and a fourth… fifth, sixth, seventh…
Most people say that once people have proven that they are not going to change you should just let them go and part ways. I have a different opinion. I think partly because so much grace has been given to me over all these years that I

Mr. Ed the Talking Horse
dare not hold anything over anyone else. That thought all by itself is enough to make you go… “Whoa… Maybe I shouldn’t give up on him or her just yet.”
As long as someone is doing their best to make strides (no matter how large) towards change, improvement or success, I’m in their corner. In stead of chaining them to the past, I try to attach them to the future… to their dream.
Here are some thoughts for ya. How many chances do you give a baby to learn to walk before you shut him down? How many times do you allow a little one to learn how to say “mama” before you stop believing in her because of her “track record” on the subject? Where would we be if the inventors of electricity, the automobile or the airplane had

Early Flight
given up after their 1st, 2nd or 25th failures?
With Every Step Forward You Create Something
Success! No matter how small or how great. With every step forward you create victory.
And check it out. Every one that has great success has something in common. Failure. Yep, failure and one more thing. A refusal to hang out with “ED”. This “Ed is not Edward, Eddie or a talking horse named “Mr.” I’m talking about -ed. E – D as in past tense. When on the end of words like try (tried), fail, hope, want, miss, believe, use… The list goes on. The past should be a reminder or better yet an encouragement. NOT a prison. It’s OK to remember where the potholes are but don’t let them stop you from going down the road or driving altogether. Even dwelling on the positive things from the past can be bondage and shrink your dreams.
Hope that helps you today,

Perseverance Wins the Race
My oldest child graduates in a month! Wow! I remember when she was born and I held her in my arms. She came home

I'm thinkin' that strawberry is pretty good!
in a Christmas stocking. What a joy…
It’s awesome to look at who she is becoming and how hard she’s worked to get there. I’m truly thankful that somehow in al of the mess that is going on in the world that she stayed the course. I’m glad that she counted her blessings and that they accounted for something.
Either way the journey in both directions begins and is determined by choices.

"Baby Girl"
Congratulations Andi! You did it.
Another Interesting thought… Perseverance takes practice. It is very tempting sometimes to run away from the small seemingly insignificant issues that may come up. Or maybe you just blow them off.
Here’s the thing. Staying true to our purpose takes faith. Especially in the little things. Life is a priceless work of art and character is the bristle marks, not the brush strokes (Give me credit if you quote me- lol).
The Right Attitude Is Not Enough
“What!” You say? Nope. It’s not. I used to think it was and I wasted a lot of time and money because no one took the time to tell me otherwise. So I’m telling YOU. Positive mindset and having the right attitude can get you nowhere! So

Sunset from the beach in Southern California
many motivational speakers get people all riled up to go nowhere fast because they leave out these vital points.
First, let’s say that you live in the Midwest or even on the east coast and your dream in life is to go on vacation, drive across the country and stay in a nice beach front hotel. Then you plan on walking along the beach and watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful… You work out the finances and you set a date. Then, when the day arrives, you get in your car and start driving east! No amount of faith, positive thinking, pure thoughts or… “if at first you don’t succeed” is going to make a difference unless you TURN AROUND.
Or maybe fear has been your problem. So you work on overcoming fear. You learn to program yourself for success. You build up your confidence to the point that you are unstoppable. You have read every book and studied every successful person you can. Now you are ready. Full of boldness. You decide to go cliff diving to celebrate the new you. So, it’s up to the top of the cliff to dive down into the crystal blue waters (during your confidence building phase you’ve actually been hitting the gym so you’re looking pretty good).

There's more to courage than just possessing it
There you are, standing on the edge feeling as strong as ever. A tropical breeze encourages you the more. Arms out to your sides and then you leap. As you make your entry into the pool below, you realize that you can’t swim. Or worse… put this entire scenario to a sky diving situation and you leap with an empty back pack. The results (while one much worse than the other) have much the same message tied to them. Attitude and positive mindset are not enough. Just taking action alone won’t cut it.
You have to have the tools… the right knowledge. You’ve got to be facing the right direction. And that doesn’t happen by accident. Spend some time this weekend taking stock in what you have and where you could improve in the way of educating yourself. Remember, if you’re going to model someone, don’t model symptoms. Don’t model the stuff on the top. Take some time, study them. Then MODEL DEEP!

Will it Happen?
You have to WILL it (to) happen!
I was thinking this morning about what separates those with success from the rest. It’s not merely attitude or faith as most people look at it. Faith with out action is not really faith at all. If you truly believe something, wouldn’t your actions match up? And I know a lot of broke people with great attitudes. It’s more than how you look at something. It’s stronger than just saying “It’s what you do with the information once you see it..”
Genesis 32 Determination
There is a story in the Bible of a man named Jacob. It says that he wrestled with an angel all night long to the point that the angel, when he couldn’t get away touched Jacob’s hip and caused it to come out of joint… And jacob still held on ’til he got what he wanted!
THAT’S what I’m talking about. Not just wanting something a lot. But putting a strangle hold on what ever it is and not letting go.
Two Buckets and a Purpose
As my stint of homelessness that I described briefly in “My Story” was coming to a new and final chapter i had a choice to make that makes my point.
I had moved in with an elderly woman and watched her home for her when she traveled. She was alone since her husband had passed and she needed the security and someone to take care of her animals. I had no transportation other than my two feet. I was still looking for a job and a permanent place to stay. I needed money. Here I was in a nice gated community in southern California and looking like (according to the nice people that frequently stopped me when I was walking) someone that matched the description of a person that the police were looking for(That’s a whole different story for a different person’s blog… trust me).
I decided to make something happen. I went to a construction site where they were building homes. I grew up in a family of carpenters, masons and construction folk and engineers. I have some skills so I walked right up to that foreman… in this gated community and asked for a job. it went from asking for a job as a framer or drywall hanger to ANY job! BUT… it seems that they didn’t need the help. I saw 2 – 5 gallon paint buckets in the trash and asked if I could have them. it was then that I put my NEW plan into action.
I cleaned out the buckets, borrowed tools and marketed myself as a handyman. I started getting work. Absolutely anything that I was asked to do I did it. If I didn’t know how to do it when they asked, I accepted the job and made sure I knew how to do it by the time I showed up for the job. I actually started making some money. I bought some better tools and a tool belt and a hat to keep the sun off of my head. Then I made my break through.
Above and Beyond
I met a gentleman that wanted a new deck built on the back of his two story home. I told him I’d do it. When I went to his house, I found that he neglected to tell me that he needed the old deck removed!
So, I hopped to it. I have built many a deck. Can probably do it with my eyes closed. But I had NO TRUCK, NO CREW, NO SPECIALIZED TOOLS. So I hopped to it! My home was gone, not my brain. I called the trash service in the area and found out how much it would cost to rent a trash bin. You know, the kind that sits in the driveway that they will deliver and haul away for you… Then I calculated how much lumber and materials I needed down to the last screw, figured in the price of a worm drive circular saw and a cordless drill and had all of those items delivered to the man’s home. I made sure I quoted him a fair price minus my tools and let him know that i was charging a little less since i didn’t have a crew that was available (I had no crew and didn’t care to split up the money). (Notice i didn’t go real cheap becaus of my terrible need for the money.) Then Here’s what happened in a nutshell.
- I promised a completion date
- I worked long hours (most days past dusk)
- I did my very best work (even repairing a window ledge that was on the back of the house – FREE)
- I finished early
- GOT PAID- – – WELL
- Got to bid on and complete another job for the same man on his pier behind his house
- Got 2 referral jobs and…
- Got hired by the same home builder that wasn’t able to hire me 3weeks earlier after he saw my work
WHAT’S THE POINT?
Your Purpose is the point. Your dreams and desires. Hold on to them and don’t let go. The things that are for you ARE FOR YOU. So, go get them. Don’t just say it. Don’t just work on it. Put a WWE arm lock on it and take it down. Will it to be so.
When someone asks you “Will it happen?” Holla Back “Yes, I will!” (the “t” was omitted from “it” on … purpose)
Be Golden,

If I Could Change It…
Many of you are no doubt waiting for the day we make history. It will be monumental (and is guaranteed to make the world sit up and listen). That leads me to this blog post. I’m sure that you’ve all had the question put to you: “If you could do absolutely anything and knew that you would not fail, what would you do?” Well, I’d like your input on a
different question.
You Have the Power
If you could change absolutely ANYTHING about your life or the world around you, what would you change? Would you make more money? How? Would you ask someone out? Would you choose a different career?
